Animal assisted activities consist of "meet and greet" type programs in which animals visit patients or residents in the facilities they reside, providing them with an opportunity to pet and socialize with a friendly animal and handler. This program and those similar to it have seen very successful responses in decreasing recovery time, advancing speech and language therapy, success in using canines as an incentive for physical therapy patients, vocalized responses from children with autism, and positive changes and responses for residents in nursing homes.  But most importantly, canine visit programs encourage smiles, comfort and patient/canine interaction from the people we serve.

Once training and proper certification is achieved, the Teams will be able to visit adults and children in various facilities where residents suffer from mental, physical and/or learning disabilities.  Tails with Tales is not breed, size or gender specific.  Teams are carefully chosen based on the dog’s temperament, obedience skills, personality and willingness to work with their handler in stressful and sometimes awkward situations.
