Supportive Parents

Overview  -  Supportive Parents assists parents with understanding and minimizing the negative consequences that kids may experience from their parents’ separation or divorce. Supportive Parents provides education on the mediation and parenting process, and reviews common scenarios of divorce or separation. Jefferson County courts require parents to complete this course, as needed.

Online Platform - Due to health and safety guidelines, all Supportive Parents classes will be held online. Participants will not attend the class at a physical COMTREA location. Login details and the platform link will be sent to participants via email 2-3 days before the online class.

Does my ex have to take the class?  -  Jefferson County courts require both parents to take a class. Individuals involved in the same case cannot attend the same class.

Will my ex be in my class?  -  No. Participants in the same case are scheduled in different classes to increase comfort with openly discussing situations they may have with the other parent. If parents register for the same class, we will contact the parent who registered last to choose a different date.

Can I bring my children? Is childcare provided?  -  Not at this time.

Can I bring my current significant other, friend, or family member?  -  Yes. The charge will be an additional $50 for each additional person who attends.

When will I get a confirmation letter?  -  Participants will receive a confirmation letter at the end of the completed class.

When will my lawyer receive confirmation that I have completed the class?  -  Confirmation is sent within 5 business days.

I took the class but the court doesn't have a copy of the letter-What do I do?  -  Please check with your attorney to get a copy of the completion letter. If your lawyer does not have a copy, please contact us with your inquiry or contact us via phone at 636-931-2700 ext 1010.

If I have taken the class recently, do I have to take it again?   -  Contact the court to find out if you need to take the class.

Will there be food and drink available?  -  Food and drink are not provided, but please feel free to bring your own.

Will I receive counseling or mediation on my case?  -  Counseling and mediation are not part of Supportive Parents. A mediator will be court-appointed by the judge. Counseling services are available at COMTREA and can be accessed at the COMTREA Welcome Center. There are a limited number of daily assessments available that are assigned first to those in most urgent need.

How can my child receive counseling?  -  Most Jefferson County schools have contracted counselors through COMTREA or other agencies. Counseling services can also be accessed via the COMTREA Welcome Center.
