COMTREA provides classes to help parents in the middle of a separation understand the impact this will have on their children. Course content helps parents to minimize the disruption and confusion that their children may be experiencing as a result of the divorce. Supportive Parents is a two-hour course with classes scheduled monthly in Arnold and Festus

  1. What is this class? Is it teaching me how to be a parent?

This class assists parents with understanding and minimizing the negative consequences that kids may experience from their parents’ separation or divorce. The Supportive Parents class provides education on the mediation and parenting plan process and reviews common scenarios that come up with children during divorce or separation. Jefferson County courts require parents to take a course to be better prepared to help their children if needed.

  1. How do I register for a class?

  1. What is the deadline for registration?

The deadline to register for each class date is 48 hours prior to the scheduled start time of the class. Participants who register after the deadline will not be permitted to attend the class.

  1. Does my ex have to take the class?

Jefferson County courts require both parents to take a course. Note-Individuals who are involved in the same case cannot attend the same class.

  1. Will my ex be in my class?

No. Participants in the same case are put in different classes to increase everyone’s comfort with openly discussing situations that they may have with the other parent. We offer several classes a month at different locations. If parents register for the same class, we will reach out to the parent who registered last to choose a different date.

  1. Can I bring my children? Is childcare provided?

Not at this time.

  1. Can I bring my current significant other?

Yes. The charge will be an additional $50 for them to attend (cash or check to COMTREA only).

  1. Can I bring a friend or a family member?

Yes. The charge will be an additional $50 for each additional person who attends (cash or check to COMTREA only).

  1. When will I get a confirmation letter?

Participants will receive a confirmation letter at the end of the completed class.

  1. When will my lawyer receive confirmation that I have completed the class?

Confirmation is sent within 5 business days.

  1. When will the court receive confirmation that I have completed the class?

Confirmation is sent within 5 business days.

  1. I took the class but the court doesn’t have a copy of the letter-What do I do?

Please check with your attorney to get a copy of the completion letter. If your lawyer does not have a copy, please contact us with your inquiry or contact us via phone at 636-931-2700.

  1. If I have taken the class recently, do I have to take it again?

Contact the court to find out if you need to take the class.

  1. Will there be food or drink available?

Food and drinks are not provided but please feel free to bring your own.

  1. Will I receive counseling or mediation on my case?

These services are not a part of Supportive Parents. A mediator will be court-appointed by the judge. Counseling services are available at COMTREA and can be accessed via the COMTREA Welcome Center. The COMTREA Welcome Center is located at 2310 N Truman Blvd, Crystal City, MO 63019 and is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 – 11. Walk-ins are welcome. There are a limited number of daily assessments available that are assigned first to those in most urgent need.

  1. I would like for my child to get counseling-How do I do it?

Most Jefferson County schools have contracted counselors through COMTREA or other agencies. Counseling services can also be accessed via the COMTREA Welcome Center.
