How do I get to see a counselor or a doctor?
To make an appointment or to obtain more information about how to get assistance from any of the COMTREA programs, one may call the nearest COMTREA office or the main office at (636) 931-2700.
The process includes:
- Initial screening over the phone. The secretary will ask the caller several questions to determine preliminary financial information, possible qualifications for third-party assistance, the best location in which to be seen, and possible programs which might be helpful to the caller. Clients will be instructed what to bring to the assessment appointment in regard to required documentation if receiving Department of Mental Health Funding, specific third-party coverage or local sliding-scale assistance.
- Assessment appointment. A Qualified Mental Health Professional will help clients determine what is wanted and possible. A preliminary plan of action (Treatment Plan) will be developed and agreement made to future activities. This step is sometimes included in the first counseling appointment - especially for those who are covered by Managed Care companies.
- Continuing appointments will occur as needed and mutually agreed upon. In some situations additional evaluation and testing may be provided by a consulting psychiatrist and/or psychologist.
Is financial assistance available?
"COMTREA, as a not-for-for profit Community Mental Health Center, believes that our clients have the right to quality professional care provided at the lowest possible cost."
- Betty Seeley, COMTREA Board President
- COMTREA accepts most insurance plans.
- For clients who do not have insurance, or have insurance that will not cover the cost of treatment, we offer other options that may supplement or replace individual financial responsibility:
- For those who qualify, the Missouri Department of Mental Health (DMH) will cover or assist in covering expenses for psychiatric services and chemical abuse services (dependent upon the availability of State funds);
- Medicaid, Medicare, or MC+ will assist those who qualify;
- Certain services may be purchased by the Division of Family Services, the Juvenile Office, Probation and Parole, or other third party payers.
- For Jefferson County Residents who do not qualify for third party reimbursement, COMTREA has an assistance program for individual, family, and group counseling. The Jefferson County Community Mental Health Fund Board provides this benefit using a mil- tax collected each year.
- COMTREA also offers a "work service program". Through this arrangement, clients may perform approved labor functions for the agency in return for reduction or elimination of their financial expenses.
- For those who qualify, The Missouri DMH will assist in reimbursement for medications needed by clients.
- "A Safe Place" domestic violence shelter residents are not charged any fees; but are encouraged to donate funds as possible.
- COMTREA can develop payment plans for clients as needed.
